About us - the St Peter’s Veterinary Group
History - St Peter's Veterinary Group (SPVG) was originally founded over 60 years ago in Petersfield market square; but in 1973 an expanding practice required relocation of our Petersfield branch to St Peter's Road. In 1978 our Horndean practice was opened, followed by our Liss branch in 1986. Originally, like most country practices of the time, the prime concern was to treat farm animals and horses, but over the years the emphasis has gradually shifted towards small animals. In 1973 the horse section split away to become a specialist equine centre at Liphook, and in 2004 the farm animal department combined with a Chichester practice to form a practice dedicated solely to the treatment of farm animals. Today, SPVG is a specialist small animal practice duly accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Surgeries- Our Petersfield and Horndean surgeries are both fully equipped with "state of the art", modern surgical operating equipment, including dental, x-ray and laboratory facilities, maintained to the highest standards. In addition, ultrasound and ECG are available at Petersfield, where animals can be hospitalised for varying periods if necessary. Here they will receive the full attentions of our nursing staff and will be seen regularly throughout the day by the veterinary surgeon in charge of the case and at night by the duty veterinary surgeon and the duty nurse. A member of our nursing staff is in permanent residence at our Petersfield surgery. Cases from our Liss branch requiring surgical or long term medical care are transferred to our Petersfield branch. All of our surgeries are equipped with computerised clinical records and are linked by Broadband Internet connection enabling the clinical notes of any animal to be swiftly viewed at any surgery regardless of where that animal was originally registered and may usually attend.
Appointments - Our surgeries operate an appointment system to minimise the stress that a long wait can cause both pet and owner. Appointments can be made throughout the day and can be made for the same day at short notice. Emergencies will of course be seen rapidly and without appointment when necessary. We would encourage you to ask to see your particular favourite veterinary surgeon or nurse whenever possible so that efficient case management and continuity can be maintained. For the convenience and ease of our clients and their pet, all of our surgeries have their own free private car parking facilities.
Specialists - In Hampshire we are fortunate to be close to a wealth of specialist practices to whose expertise we are happy to make referral if, after due discussion and agreement, this is considered to be in the best interests of our patients.
Professional development - There are continual advances in veterinary science in both surgical and medical fields and St Peter's Veterinary Group feel that a vital part of our service to our clients it to keep aware and abreast of all these developments. For this reason all of our veterinary surgeons and nurses attend continual professional development courses on a regular basis.
Insurance - We recommend our clients consider veterinary health care insurance, thus allowing them freedom from financial concern in the unfortunate event of their pet having an accident or a lengthy illness. We accept payment by credit card, cheque or cash and if requested will always provide an estimate prior to commencement of treatment.
