Guidelines Castrate/Spaying - St Peters Vets
Castrate
- Small dogs from 6 months of age
- Large dogs from 1 year
- Day Surgery
- Surgical wound is glued so there are no external sutures to be removed.
- Buster collar offered to prevent wound being licked!
Spaying
- Either before first season; or 4 months after season (so that signs of possible phantom pregnancy have resolved)
- Day Surgery
- Buster collar offered to prevent wound being licked!
Castrate
- From 6 months of age
- Day surgery
- No stitches to be removed
Spaying
- From 6 months of age
- Day surgery
- Surgical wound is glued so there are no external sutures to be removed
- Buster collar offered to prevent wound being licked!
Castrate
- From 4 months of age
- Day Surgery
- Surgical wound is glued so there are no external sutures to be removed.
Spaying
- From 4 months of age
- Hospitalised after surgery to monitor defaecation. This is normally for one night only.
- Surgical wound is glued so there are no external sutures to be removed.
